Almost every family I work with starts with schools, and almost every family is surprised by how flexible Wake County is compared to where they came from. Your address sets a base school, but magnet and charter options can change the answer entirely.
I'm not allowed to tell you which school is "best" — and honestly I shouldn't. What I can do is verify current assignments, show you calendars and program types, and point you to the data so you can decide for your own kids.

Address decides your school
Wake County assigns a base school by address, and boundaries are reviewed regularly. Never take a listing's school claim at face value — we verify the current assignment before you write an offer.
Calendars
Traditional vs. year-round
Many Wake elementary and middle schools run year-round on multi-track calendars. Same number of school days, very different family vacation planning.
Choice
Magnet programs
Raleigh has a deep magnet system — IB, Montessori, gifted and talented, engineering. Applications open in winter for the following year and are not tied to your base assignment.

Charters
Charter schools run their own lotteries and are open countywide. Deadlines are early and independent of the Wake County calendar, so plan a year ahead where you can.
Private
Independent schools
Ravenscroft, Cardinal Gibbons, St. Mary's, Saint Timothy's and others. Admissions run on their own timeline, typically with fall tours and winter decisions.
Higher ed
After graduation
NC State is in town, Duke and UNC are within thirty minutes, and Wake Tech is one of the largest community colleges in the country.
